Dennis’ Story: A Fight for Survival

Dennis-2
Sometimes, all it takes is one person stopping to look a little closer. For Dennis, that moment changed everything.

Curled up alone on a patch of wasteland, this young fox had reached the point where he simply couldn’t carry on. His body was ravaged by severe mange, leaving him weak, exhausted and desperately in need of help.

Thankfully, a kind member of the public spotted him and contacted us.

Knowing he needed urgent veterinary attention, Dennis was rushed straight to the vets as an emergency. But shortly after arriving, his condition took another frightening turn when he suffered a seizure.

The veterinary team acted quickly, admitting him overnight onto intravenous fluids and antibiotics while they worked to stabilise him. Blood tests revealed a high white blood cell count, showing his tiny body was fighting a significant infection.

There was, however, one piece of encouraging news.

Despite everything Dennis had endured, there were no signs of liver abnormalities, giving us hope that with the right treatment he still had a chance.

The following day, Dennis was stable enough to be transferred into our care.

But his ordeal wasn’t over.

Not long after arriving, Dennis vomited up a number of roundworms, revealing yet another burden his already exhausted body had been carrying. He’s now receiving worming treatment alongside ongoing care for his mange, antibiotics to tackle infection, nutritious meals and plenty of rest while we monitor him around the clock.

For now, Dennis has something he didn’t have when he was found.

A warm bed. Regular meals. The medical care he so desperately needed. And a team determined to give him every possible chance of recovery.

His future is still uncertain, and we know the coming days will be critical. But Dennis is no longer facing those challenges alone.

Sadly, foxes like Dennis are discovered far too often. Mange, infection, parasites and starvation can quickly become a devastating combination for a young fox trying to survive in the wild.

It’s only thanks to the compassion of our supporters that we’re able to answer those emergency calls and give vulnerable foxes like Dennis the second chance they deserve.

We’ll continue to share updates as Dennis progresses through his recovery, and we hope that one day we’ll be able to tell you the story of his return to the wild.
